Eagles Race to Strong Finishes at the Alexander Asics Invitational

For the second consecutive day, the Emory University cross country teams were in action this time competing at the Alexander Asics Invitational in Fairburn, GA. The men registered a second place finish while the women turned in a fourth place finish.

The No. 21 ranked men, after a spectacular day at the Paul Short Run yesterday, posted another great day scoring 55 points to finish in second place. Georgia Tech was the race winner scoring a low 18 points while Carson-Newman rounded out the podium with a 101 score.

Pacing the pack for the Eagles was junior Spencer Watry who marked a new personal best time, crossing the finish line in 25:25 to finish in sixth place at the 8k meet. Junior Tristan Olpin was rock-solid for Emory notching a 16th place finish while registering a 25:56 time. In his first scoring effort for the Eagles, freshman Nikhil Makker finished just behind Olpin with a 17th place finish with a recorded time of 25:57. Sophomore Evan Woska established a new personal best time with a 26:09 that saw him finish in 21st place. Rounding out the scoring runners for the Eagles was sophomore Jonathan Orelowitz whose time of 26:11 saw him finish in 23rd place. 

The No. 28 women followed up a record-setting day at the Paul Short Run yesterday with solid results at the Alexander Asics Invitational, scoring 110 points for a fourth place finish. Georgia Tech emerged victorious with 23 points while Wofford (50 points) and Carson-Newman (85 points) made up the remainder of the podium. 

Graduate Claire Hu led the way for Emory with a season-best 5k time of 18:58 to finish in 19th place. Sophomore Michelle Mittaz, who finished in scoring position for the first time in her Eagles career, came in 27th place after notching a time of 19:37. Senior Shana Fitzmaurice posted a solid day on the course with a 32nd place finish as a result of her 19:50 time. Junior Lucy Hansen registered a 37th place finish in the field of 106 runners thanks to her 20:19 time. Sophomore Milan Cambon was the final scoring runner for Emory as she posted a time of 20:29 which saw her with a 42nd place finish.

The Eagles will return on Friday, October 14th for the UAB Blazer Classic in Montevallo, AL in what will be their final regular season meet before the postseason begins in the final weekend of October.
