Moira Sullivan UAA Softball Co-Player Of The Week

Emory University freshman Moira Sullivan (Marietta, GA) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Softball Co-Player of the Week after helping the No. 1-ranked Eagles to a 4-0 record in games vs. Piedmont College and Covenant College.  Sullivan shares the honor with Brittany Grage of Rochester.  It marks the first time in her career that she has been selected for the award.

Sullivan swung a big bat over the four games, posting a team-leading .636 batting average with seven hits in 11 trips to the plate.  She also tied for the club's lead with eight RBIs while finishing with an .818 slugging percentage.  She hit safely and drove in runs in all four games as the Eagles closed out the regular season with a won-lost ledger of 33-3. She went a combined 3-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBIs in a 12-4, (5 inn.) and 8-0 (5 inn.) doubleheader sweep against Piedmont before going 4-for-5 with five RBIs in 11-2 (5 in.) and 8-0 (6 inn.) wins over Covenant College.  In the finale against Covenant, she went 3-for-3 with three RBIs including a two-run double.

Sullivan has given the Emory offense a late-season boost, making all eight of her season appearances over the past 10 games.  During that stretch, she is hitting at a .650 clip with 13 hits in 20 at-bats.  She has registered four doubles and one homer en route to manufacturing a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Emory will hear on Monday, May 7, as to what awaits it for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
