Emory Softball Closes Out Regular Season At LaGrange College

The No. 2-ranked Emory softball team will close out the regular season portion of its schedule on Saturday (Apr. 20) when it travels to LaGrange College for a doubleheader.  Action at the LaGrange College Softball Complex begins at 1:00 pm.

The Eagles of head coach Penny Siqueiros stand 38-2 and are coming off a doubleheader split at Piedmont College last Tuesday (Apr. 16).  Emory posted a 12-2, five-inning decision in the opener before dropping a 5-4 verdict in the nightcap, ending a 19-game winning streak.  This past Saturday, the Eagles claimed a pair of exhibition contests against Gordon State College.

Junior Megan Light continues to lead the team in hitting with her .432 mark at the plate (48-of-111) ranking third among UAA players.  Light tops the squad and the conference with 52 RBIs (second-highest school seasonal mark), and is deadlocked for the No. 1 spot in the loop with 13 doubles.  She socked her conference-best 12th homer in the opening game of the Piedmont twinbill, enabling her to establish a school seasonal mark for most round trippers. Light will head into the LaGrange contests with a team-high 14 multi-hit outings.  Over the last six games, she is hitting .611 with 11 hits in 18 plate appearances.  Junior Ally Kersthold has added firepower to an already impressive attack, hitting safely in her last seven games, and showing a .500 clip at the plate (11-of-22).  Kersthold has also knocked in runs over the last seven contests, totaling 10 RBIs in that stretch.   Her recent hot streak has upped her season batting average to .339.

In the circle, the Eagles show a team ERA of 1.40 with that mark leading the UAA and ranking ninth nationally among D-III programs at the start of the week.  Junior Amanda Kardys notched her school-record 23rd triumph of the campaign in the Piedmont game and has compiled an ERA of 1.24 over 146 1/3 innings of action.

A member of the USA South Conference, LaGrange, led by 11th-year head coach Jennifer Claybrook, is coming off a third-place performance at the league championship and stands 18-18 overall heading into a Thursday doubleheader vs. Agnes Scott.  Following the two games vs. ASC, the Panthers will play a pair of contests at Berry on Friday.   Sophomore Kristy Flick leads the team in hitting with a .366 average while freshman Kalin Oglesby is close behind with a .358 showing.
