Softball Sweeps Crosstown Foe Agnes Scott, Improves to 4-2

After a rain delay suspended the first game against Agnes Scott on Thursday night, the Emory University softball team swept the Scotties on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.

The first game started on Thursday afternoon at Agnes Scott with the Eagles one strike away from completing the game. Inclement weather suspended the game in the fourth inning moving the rest of the game to Cooper Field on Saturday. Emory took the game by a score of 13-2 in five innings and followed that with a 9-0 win in the second game.

Game 1 – Emory 13, Agnes Scott 2 (5 innings)

On Thursday, the Eagles scored five runs in the top of the first inning with two singles from senior Tyler Miller and junior Page Nellis. Freshman Mackenzie Duford doubled to bring the score to 4-0 before the Eagles capitalized on a fielding error for the fifth run. Miller homered twice in the game, her third and fourth of the season, while freshman Ella Hoyle had her first collegiate home run. Before the game was suspended, the Eagles scored 10 runs while holding the Scotties to one.

Resuming the game on Saturday, Emory scored three more runs in the fifth inning bringing the final score to 13-2 for game one.

The Eagles and the Scotties were scoreless through the next three innings before Lang ended the game in the fifth inning with a two-run double to left field.

Duford threw almost three innings of no-hit softball and struck out four in her four innings of work in the second game. Swift came into the game in the top of the fifth to close out the game for Emory.
