Softball Shuts Out Rhodes College 8-0 in Late Inning Rally

The Emory University softball team pulled out an 8-0 win over Rhodes College at Cooper Field after scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Eagles improve to 9-4 on the season while freshman Mackenzie Duford earns her sixth win. Senior Tyler Miller recorded her sixth home run of the season with a huge drive to left field in the third inning. Emory will return on Wednesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 16 to face Maryville College in a two game series.

Rhodes started the game with two hits in the bottom of the first, but Duford was able to get out of the inning without a scratch. The game was held scoreless until Miller's solo shot in the bottom of the third gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

For the next inning and a half, both pitchers recorded three up, three down innings before Emory capitalized on a seven run fifth inning.

Sophomore Kayla Lang recorded her first hit of the day leading off the inning with a double to left field. Lang was scored by an RBI double from freshman Ella Hoyle. Duford showed up offensively driving in Hoyle to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Junior Natalie Swift recorded her second hit of the day to bring in another run followed by a single from junior Leslie Berg to score Duford. A single from freshman Ashley Chu brought in the sixth run of the game before junior Page Nellis ended the game with a two-RBI double to center field.
