Softball Drops Series Opener to Brandeis, 7-5

The Emory University softball team took their second loss of UAA play 7-5 against the Brandeis Judges on Friday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Eagles drop to 12-11 on the season while the Judges improve to 10-1 and remain undefeated in UAA play.

Brandeis took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but freshman Ella Hoyle answered in the bottom of the inning with a two run double down the left field line.

The Judges capitalized on mistakes from Emory's defense to take a 6-2 lead in the top of the second. Brandeis scored another run in the top of the third inning for a 7-2 score.

In the bottom of the third, freshman Isabel Cohen took a bases loaded walk to score the Eagles' third run of the game. Junior Natalie Swift followed in the bottom of the fourth with a single to second base to score freshman Ashley Chu and cut the Judges' lead to 7-4.

Senior Tyler Miller recorded a sacrifice fly in the fourth to score the fifth run, but Emory was unable to score in the last three innings and Brandeis took the game 7-5.

The Eagles and Judges will face off again on Saturday, April 1 for a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm followed by the series conclusion on Sunday, April 2 at 12 pm.
