Softball Dominates Carnegie Mellon in Season Finale, 18-7

The Emory University softball team defeated the Carnegie Mellon Tartans 18-7 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the season.

The Eagles finished the year with an 18-20 record and 8-11 in conference play.

The bats came alive in the first inning for Emory with Ashley Chu starting the inning with a single followed by an RBI double from senior Tyler Miller to bring in the first run of the game. Freshman Ella Hoyle continued the inning with an RBI single giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the first.

Emory scored again in the top of the second thanks to single to left field from freshman Isabel Cohen

In the top of the third, the Eagles scored 12 runs on nine hits starting with another RBI hit from Hoyle. Junior Page Nellis followed with a double to left to score Hoyle. Junior Natalie Swift continued her impressive weekend with an RBI single.

The Eagles were able to bat through the lineup in the third but the scoring battle continued through the fifth inning.

Carnegie Mellon plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth but Emory's offense answered with three more in the top of the fifth. The Tartans wouldn't go down without a fight and scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the effort fell short and Emory took the final game of the season 18-7.
