Four from Softball Earn 2024 All-UAA Honors

The Emory University softball program had four members selected to the University Athletic Association Team as announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Sophomore Ella Hoyle and freshman Ellie Zerr led the way with their All-UAA First Team honors while senior Page Nellis and sophomore Ashley Chu were named to the All-UAA Second Team.

Hoyle earns her second All-UAA selection after her impressive rookie season in 2023. She became a powerhouse for the Eagles in conference play this season boasting a .472 batting average across 16 games played. She totaled 25 hits in her 53 at bats and led the team with 24 RBI and held a .623 slugging percentage. Hoyle finished second on the team with five doubles in conference play while also hitting a home run. Her best game came against the Carnegie Mellon Tartans in game three of the series where she went 3-for-3 with six RBI and two doubles. That weekend, she totaled 11 RBI and was named the UAA Hitter of the Week for her efforts.

Zerr became an all-around player for Emory in her rookie campaign while placing her name in the record books. She batted .404 in conference play across 16 games while posting 21 hits and finished first on the team with her .846 slugging percentage. She led the team with 13 extra base hits, including five home runs in UAA action, and also paced the team with 19 runs scored for the Eagles. Zerr's best conference appearance came against the NYU Violets in game two of the series after she went 2-for-4 at the plate and totaled three RBI with a double and a home run.

Nellis put the exclamation point on her Emory career earning her first career All-UAA honor. She finished conference play with a .404 batting average while finishing in a tie for second on the team with 21 hits in 52 at bats. Nellis became an extra-base machine for the Eagles totaling nine extra-base hits including eight doubles and a triple. She finished second on the team with 18 runs scored while slugging .596 in UAA action. Nellis earned the title "Queen of the Beam" after being hit by 17 pitches this season, including five in conference games, to break the program record. Earlier this season, Nellis was named to the Tucci/NFCA Division III Player Watchlist earning a spot in Region VI.

Chu picks up her second All-UAA honor after being named the UAA Rookie of the Year last season. She finished conference play with a .305 batting average while posting 18 hits in 16 games played. Chu led the team with seven stolen bases against conference opponents while totaling 27 on the season. She earned the first extra-base hit of her career this season and posted a double and a triple against the Brandeis Judges in the final two games of the series.
