No. 15 Emory Women's Basketball Prevails At Chicago -- Remains Tied For First In the UAA

Senior Danielle Landry scored a career-high 19 points and classmate Misha Jackson also contributed 19 points in helping the No. 15-ranked Emory women's basketball team to a win at the University of Chicago on Sunday.  The Eagles upped their overall record to 19-3, 9-2 in the University Athletic Association, following an 80-65 decision over the Maroons who slipped to 7-15 overall, 3-8 in the conference.

Landry, whose previous career best was 18 points, finished the afternoon hitting six-of-12 from the floor along with seven-of-10 from the charity stripe in notching her 10th double-figure scoring performance of the season.   Jackson, who exploded for a 17-point second half, knocked down eight of her 11 field goal attempts and was three-of-four from the free throw line as she racked up her 16th double-digit performance of the year.  Also playing a big role in the win was junior Selena Castillo who torched the Maroons for a career-high 17 points while doling out a team-high four assists and coming up with a pair of steals.

Emory finished the afternoon hitting 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the floor compared to UC's mark of 47.1 percent (24-of-51).   Aiding the Eagles' cause was a strong performance in free throw shooting that saw the squad hit a season-high tying 20-of-26 from the charity stripe while the Maroons connected on 14 of their 15 attempts.  While Emory saw UC enjoy a 37-26 margin in rebounding, it turned the ball over a season-low six times and scored a total of 21 points off 23 Maroon miscues.

After building an eight-point lead, 37-29, at the intermission, the Eagles enjoyed four 10-point leads during the early stages of the second stanza including a 45-35 cushion with 13:54 remaining as Jackson accounted for all eight of the team's points to open the half.   A jumper by Castillo put Emory up by a 57-48 count with 9:30 on the clock, but UC's Paige Womack sank a pair of triples as part of a 12-2 spurt by the home team that put it ahead, 60-59, with 6:22 left.   However, the Emory responded by holding UC scoreless over the next 5:36 while going on a lethal 18-0 barrage that gave it a 77-60 lead.   Jackson and Castillo each scored five points during the decisive stretch while junior Savannah Morgan chipped in four points.   Jackson and Landry combined for 29 of the Eagles' 43 second-half points with the pair hitting 10-of-16 field goal attempts.    Junior Hannah Lilly reached the 1,000 career-point plateau during the contest with her six points boosting her mark to 1,001 points.

With the win, Emory remained in a tie for the top spot in the UAA with the University of Rochester.  Rochester won at Washington University on Sunday, 93-74, dropping the Bears into third place, one game behind Emory and UR.

Emory returns to action on Friday, Feb. 15, when it hosts Case Western in a 6:00 pm tip.
