Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak; Defeats Brandeis 69-43

The Emory University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games Friday night, defeating Brandeis University, 69-43, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

Eleven of the 12 Emory players that saw the court in the game recorded a point, led by junior Mariane Auza's season-high 12 points. Auza went 5-for-10 from the field while collecting eight rebounds and four steals. Senior Anna Arato scored 11 points in a team-leading 26 minutes and junior Claire Brock reached double figures for the 11th consecutive game, posting 10 points.

Emma Reavis and Kerry Tanke combined for 27 points for the visiting Judges as Reavis led all scorers with a career-high 16 points. Tanke contributed 11 points on 5-of-6 from the floor and 1-of-2 from the line. No other Brandeis player had more than one field goal, and the Judges as a whole went 1-for-23 from 3-point range, missing their first 18 attempts from downtown.

With the win, Emory improves to 11-4 overall and now pulls into a first place tie with New York University at 5-1 in league action heading into Sunday's matchup between the two teams. The No. 7 ranked Violets suffered their first defeat of the season Friday night, falling on the road to Rochester by four.

Just as the Emory men's team did Friday evening, the Emory women never trailed in the contest. The teams traded baskets for their first six points of the game before Emory put together a 13-5 run to expand their lead to 19-11 on a steal and lay-up by Brock. After leading 21-15 through one quarter, the Eagles outscored the Judges by eight in the second, going into halftime leading 40-26. The teams were even at 13 in the third but a commanding 16-4 point differential by Emory in the fourth helped seal the win.

Tip off for the Eagles showdown at home against NYU is set for 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the WoodPEC. As a reminder, fans are not permitted at the game as Emory is operating under an orange condition until January 31.
