Emory University women's basketball junior Claire Brock was named a Second Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Wednesday afternoon.
Brock becomes the first-ever player in women's basketball history to earn Academic All-America honors and is the third Eagle to earn that distinction this academic year, joining volleyball's Tara Martin and men's basketball's Matthew Schner. Brock's honor now brings the total to 195 Academic All-America awards in the history of the Emory Athletics department.

This marks the second national award for the junior guard this week as she was previously named to the D3hoops.com All-Region Second Team on Tuesday. Brock currently carries a 4.0 grade-point average as a Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology major.
Brock, a UAA First Team selection earlier this month, finished inside the top-six in the league in 10 different statistical categories and was among the Division III leaders in three-point percentage (17th, 40.5%), free throw percentage (26th, 84.6%) and steals per game (71st, 2.65). Her 16.2 points per game was third among UAA leaders and ranked 117th nationally.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a key starter or reserve, maintain a 3.30 grade point average, be of sophomore standing or higher, and have attended their current institutions for at least one year.
