Women’s Basketball Earns First Win of the Season against NC Wesleyan, 81-44

The Emory University women's basketball team collected their first win of the 2023-24 season defeating the NC Wesleyan Battling Bishops 81-44 on Sunday afternoon during the final day of the Jean Edge Classic in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

The Eagles now sit 1-1 to open the season with Junior Daniella Aronsky picking up 11 points on the day and totaling nine assists through just 22 minutes. Fellow junior Morgan Laudick followed behind with nine points and four rebounds while newcomer Alexandra Loucopoulos had a career-high eight points and three rebounds against the Bishops.

Emory started the first quarter with a 17-0 run in the first five minutes highlighted by two three-pointers from Aronsky and seven points from senior Izzy Munson. The Bishops were able to cut Emory's lead to 21-13 by the end of the first quarter.

Laudick highlighted the second quarter scoring seven points in the first four minutes of the quarter to force a timeout from Wesleyan. The Eagles took a 34-15 lead with 5:07 left in the quarter before taking a 39-19 lead with 1:58 left in the half thanks to a three-pointer from freshman Riley Allen.

The Eagles came out of halftime with a fire lit under them taking a 51-27 lead with four minutes to go in the third quarter before holding a 57-33 advantage at the start of the fourth. Junior Erin Martin showed up big for the Eagles in the third with four points of her eight total points, a block and a rebound.

The fourth quarter was one for the freshman with the Eagles scoring 24 points thanks to Mikaela Hubbard, Caroline Connelly, Kate Arne and Loucopoulos highlighting the quarter. The Eagles were able to secure the win after two made free throws from Arne ended the game 81-44.

The Eagles will return to the Woodruff P.E Center on Tuesday, November 14 to face LaGrange at 6 pm for their home opener.
