Women's Golf Concludes Columbia Classic on Strong Note

The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's golf team had another strong showing on Monday as the Eagles concluded the Columbia Classic in Melbourne, Florida.

Emory matched its day two total by shooting 312 as a team and finished 16th as the lone Division III program in the Division I field. Yale University was the team champion with a three-day total of 871 with Penn State (874) and Old Dominion (877) rounding out the top three. The Eagles' final day on the course saw them eclipse five teams, besting Eastern Kentucky (313), Youngstown State (314), Princeton (315), St. John's (317) and UAlbany (317).

Freshmen Derica Chiu and Esther Jung were the Eagle standouts on day three as both golfers carded 77 to lead the team. Chiu's final round featured eight pars and three birdies to help her finish with a three-day total of 238 (81-80-77) and in a tie for 66th. Jung's Monday saw her finish with 11 pars and one birdie to help finish in sole possession of 72nd with a three-day score of 239 (81-81-77).

Fellow freshman Carys Code was the top Emory finisher following the final round as she ended in a tie for 44th after her day three score of 80 brought her combined tally to 232 (78-74-80)

Junior Ellen Dong fired a 78 on Monday, matching her second round total, as she placed in a tie for 52nd at 235 (79-78-78). Senior Mariana Chong rounded out the team scorers with an 84 on Monday, giving her 245 (81-80-84) across the three rounds to tie for 78th.

Sophomore Cindy Wang, competing as an individual, entered the clubhouse with an 83 on Monday but ended the competition as Emory's third-best finisher in a tie for 57th with her three-day scorecard reading 236 (77-76-83).

The Eagles will return to the course in March when the spring begins in earnest, starting with the George Fox Invitational in Peoria, Arizona on March 9-10.
