The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's golf team concluded play at the Westbrook Invite at the Lakes on Sunday, finishing third in the 10-team field. The two-round tournament was played at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Arizona on the par 71, 5810 yards Westbrook Lakes Course.
After sitting in fifth at the end of the day on Saturday, the Eagles moved up two positions to conclude the two-rounds in the third with a two-day total of 584 (290-294). The University of Redlands won the team title with 580 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the day one leader, came in second with a score of 582.
As the Eagles' top performer on Saturday, junior Sharon Mun was solid once again on Sunday while competing as an individual. Mun shot a team-best 71 over the second round and finished in a tie for fourth with a two-day total of 141. Mun's Sunday consisted of three birdies and 13 more pars as she finished the tournament with 26 pars.
Sophomore Katie Park was Emory's best performer in the team scoring as she equaled Mun with a scorecard reading 71 in the second round. Park recorded three birdies to go along with 14 pars as she finished second individually with 27 pars over the weekend.
Park moved up 10 spots with her outing and finished in a tie for 11th with teammate Ellen Dong. Dong entered the clubhouse one shot behind Park on Sunday after a second round that was impressively consistent. Dong shot par on 17 of her 18 holes and matched Park for the tournament with 27 pars.
Behind Park and Dong in the individual standings was freshman Carys Code who ended the invite in a tie for 15th after recording a three-over 74 on Sunday. Code had 11 pars in the second round, including seven on the back nine.
Rounding out the Emory golfers were freshman Esther Jung and sophomore Cindy Wang. Jung went for a six-over 77 in the second round as she finished tied for 21st and for Wang, her scorecard showed an eight-over 79 following her 18 holes to end in a tie for 23rd.
The Eagles will return to competition at the end of March when the team competes in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia from March 29-30.
