Wilson & Ong Selected as UAA Swimmers of the Week

Two members of the Emory University Swimming and Diving Team were selected as the University Athletic Association's Swimmers of the Week based on their performances against the University of Georgia on Saturday, with junior Andrew Wilson earning the men's honor, and freshman Ming Ong claiming the women's award.

Wilson recorded a pair of NCAA 'B' cut times during the third-ranked Eagles' meet against Georgia, ranked second in Division I.  Wilson won the 100-yard breaststroke with a provisional qualifying time of 56.65 seconds, and added a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 'B' cut mark of 2:05.41.  He also finished fourth as the breaststroke leg of Emory's 200-yard medley relay (1:33.42) and a sixth-place finish as the second leg of the Eagles' 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.13).

Wilson contributed 14.5 points towards the team's total, as the Emory men fell by a 173-115 score to the Bulldogs, ending their dual meet season with a 4-3 record.

Ong recorded three NCAA 'B' cut times in individual events to help the top-ranked Eagles against UGA, ranked first in Division I.  Ong finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.19.  She added fourth-place finishes in each of the 100-yard butterfly and 400-yard individual medley, swimming marks of 57.25 seconds and 4:31.13.  She also swam the butterfly leg of the Eagles' 200-yard medley relay, which finished fifth in a time of 1:48.33.

Ong scored 21 points for Emory, as the Eagles fell to the Bulldogs 163-127, completing their dual meet campaign with an 8-1 record.

This was the fourth conference Athlete of the Week honor of the season for Wilson, and the seventh of his career.  Ong claimed the award for the first time in her career.

The Eagles will now turn their attention towards the 2015 UAA Championships, to be hosted by Emory at the Woodruff Physical Education Center from February 11th – 14th.
