Emory Women Move Up NCAA Leaderboard on Day Three

The Emory University swimming & diving team moved up the leaderboard on day three of the NCAA Championships on the strength of four podium finishes and an additional three appearances in consolation finals.

The Eagles saw a majority of their points on Friday come in the 100 Backstroke where three lanes in the championship final were occupied by Emory caps. Senior Megan Jungers, a two-time national runner-up in the event, added another top-4 finish to her resume as she was Emory's highest finisher at fourth overall with a time of 54.80. Sophomore Isabel Huang claimed the fifth spot with a finals time of 54.97 and classmate Penny Celtnieks grabbed the eighth spot with a mark of 56.16.

To go along with three podium finishes in the 100 Back, the Eagles added top-16 finishes in the 200 Fly and 100 Breaststroke. In the Butterfly, junior Sarah Daly took 11th position with her third place swim in the B Final with a time of 2:04.44 while fellow junior touched in 13th place just behind her at 2:04.60.

Freshman Katie Cohen, who has helped two relays reach the podium in consecutive nights, earned her first individual honor of her career with a top-16 showing in the 100 Breaststroke. Cohen, who was seeded 16th entering the evening session, placed 14th in the finals with a time of 1:03.38.

Friday night concluded with Huang, senior Penelope Helm, freshman Katherine Swan and sophomore Meredith Teague representing the Blue & Gold in the timed finals of the 800 Freestyle Relay. With their combined time of 7:22.85, the Eagles came in fourth position for their fourth podium finish in relay events at this year's nationals.

Through three days of competition, the Eagles will enter Saturday in sixth place in the team standings with 204 points. Denison is the overall leader at 315 points, holding a slim three point lead over Kenyon.

The final day of action will feature a schedule consisting of the 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 400 Freestyle Relay, women's 3-meter diving and the 1,650 Freestyle.
