Women’s Tennis Opens Weekend with 6-3 Defeat of #15 Babson

The Emory University women's tennis program opened its weekend stint with a 6-3 victory over the No. 15 ranked Babson Beavers on Friday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.

The No. 3 ranked Eagles earned their 10th win of the season and improve to 10-3 on the season with nine of those wins coming against ranked opponents.

The Beavers were able to jump to an early start taking the doubles match on court one before sophomore Iris Berman and junior Eliza McPherron dominated their match on court two with an 8-5 win to tie the match at one. Babson was able to take the final doubles match on court three with an 8-7 decision taking the tiebreaker 7-4. 

The Eagles were on fire during singles competition taking five out of six matches all with straight-set decisions. Sophomore Izzy Antanavicius started things off with a 6-2,6-2 win on court four. Sophomore Emily Kantrovitz saw action on court one taking her match with a 6-4,6-1 victory while senior Ilayda Baykan took a 6-2, 6-1 decision on court three. 

Berman and McPherron rounded out the match on courts five and six respectively. On court five, Berman earned her 10th singles win of the season defeating her opponent with a 6-2, 6-0 victory followed by a 6-3, 6-2 win on court six from McPherron, her sixth singles win this season.

The Eagles will travel to Demorest, Georgia on Saturday, April 6 to face the Piedmont Lions at 9:30 AM.
