Emory Falls To Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

The Emory volleyball team closed out play at the East-West Battle Saturday evening with a loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.  The No. 10 Athenas raised their record to 6-0 following a 3-1 verdict (25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-19) over the No. 2 Eagles who slipped to 6-2.

Emory had a trio of double-figure terminators, led by freshman Alana Dawson and senior Tara Martin, both of whom registered 11 with Dawson hitting .292 (11-4--24).  It represented Martin's fifth outing with 10 or more kills this year and the third time Dawson had reached double digits. Freshman Lily Martin rounded out the group with 10 successful attack attempts.  Freshman Sarah Luong finished with 40 assists, 14 digs and three block assists while freshman Madison Cail contributed six kills and four (1-3) total blocks.

For the match, CMS posted a .293 (66-20--157) hitting percentage compared to the Eagles' effort of .173 (47-23--139). The Athenas held a slim 59-58 advantage in digs while Emory recorded an 8-6 edge in total blocks.

Emory returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 16) when it hosts the University of West Georgia in a 6:00 pm start.
