Emory Volleyball Downs UT-Dallas in Four Sets to Advance to NCAA Regional Final

The Emory women's volleyball team is headed to its 11th straight regional final after capturing a four-set victory (25-20, 25-11, 22-25, 25-18) over UT-Dallas Friday night at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

Senior Tara Martin continued her dominant ways pacing the Eagles with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .385 while freshman Alana Dawson had her strongest showing of the postseason registering 11 kills while hitting .421. Senior Roisin O'Dowd had a career night of her own posting eight kills, five blocks, and a .600 hitting percentage. Junior Cassie Srb was up to her usual tricks posting 48 assists to go along with six kills and 15 digs.

The first set was tight throughout but the Eagles, hitting .361 as a squad, pulled away at the end winning four of the last five points to secure a 25-20 win. O'Dowd had three blocks in the set including a big set capper by her and freshman Lily Martin.

The second set was dominated by the Eagles as they hit .481 and held the Comets to a lowly .036 hitting percentage. The Eagles started the set on a 4-0 run that was made up by two aces by sophomore Carly Wallace and two blocks from junior Abby Heimlicher. The Eagles led the entire set and closed on their second 5-0 run of the set that was highlighted by a dump kill by Srb to close the set.

Emory led by as much as five in the third set but UT-Dallas stormed back to force a fourth set, however, the Eagles wouldn't let it go any farther than that. Another service run by Wallace to start the set saw the Eagles up 4-0 early. Despite the Comets best efforts they never held a lead in the fourth set. In classic Tara Martin fashion she put the finishing touches on the Comets with a blistering kill down the middle to close the match and give the Eagles the four-set victory.

The Eagles will take on the Vikings of Berry College in the NCAA regional final on Saturday at 7:00 PM at the Woodruff PE Center with an opportunity to advance to the national quarterfinals on the line.
