Women Place Second at South Regional; Urban Wins Sixth Consecutive Meet

The Emory University women's cross country team registered a second place finish at the NCAA South Regional Championships on Saturday morning in Newport News, VA as senior Annika Urban won her sixth consecutive meet.

The No. 30 ranked Eagles recorded 48 points to come in second place at the regional meet marking their 22nd consecutive year with a top two finish in the region. No. 16 ranked Lynchburg took home the regional crown after recording 30 points while No. 26 Washington & Lee rounded out the podium with 90 points. By virtue of finishing in the top 35, each of Emory's seven runners who competed earned All-Region status.

Urban cruised to a victory crossing the finish line in 22:29.3 to win her second consecutive NCAA South Regional meet by over 20 seconds as she prepares for next weekend's NCAA Championship meet. Graduate student Claire Hu turned in one of her best performances of the season coming in second for the Eagles and eighth overall after turning in a time of 23:44.2. Sophomore Jenna Daly has had a late season resurgence as she finished in third for the Eagles, her highest finish of the season, and eleventh overall with a time of 23:58.9. Finishing just behind Daly was freshman Luna McCauley who notched a time of 24:01.8 to finish in 12th place. As a result of Urban, Hu, Daly and McCauley finishing within the top 14 at the regional meet they have each qualified for the NCAA Championships as individuals.

Also competing for the Eagles, junior Lily Taylor rounded out scoring for Emory as she turned in a 16th place finish after recording a time of 24:11.2. Junior Helena Kummings crossed the finish line in 24:26.4 which was good for a 23rd place finish. The final runner for the Eagles was sophomore Liesel Scherrer who came in 26th place as a result of her 24:37.1 time.

The Eagles will now turn their attention to the NCAA Championships which are set to take place on the Forrest Acres course in Lansing, MI on Saturday, November 19th. An announcement will be made on the NCAA's website tomorrow about whether or not the Eagles have earned an at-large bid to the national meet.
