Emory Track & Field Heads to Cleveland for UAA Indoor Championships

The Emory University Track and Field programs travel to Cleveland, Ohio this weekend to compete in the UAA Indoor Championships which will be held at the Veale Athletic Center on the campus of Case Western Reserve on Saturday, February 24th and Sunday, February 25th.

The Eagles return 10 All-UAA performers on the women’s side, three All-UAA men performers and enter the meet with a combined 17 individual times or marks ranked inside the top-six in the conference thus far this season.

Senior Charlie Hu, the UAA’s Most Outstanding Field Performer from a year ago, looks to defend his crown in the triple jump while classmates Benjamin Rogin and Max Brown try to improve upon their top-three finishes from last year’s championships. Rogin brings the fastest time in the 60m Hurdles into the meet at 8.35 whereas Brown is ranked third in the mile with a converted time of 4:16.73 and Hu is fourth in the triple jump at 13.32m.

For the women, six returners finished among the top-three in individual events at last year’s UAA Championships including five second place finishes. Junior Dani Bland in both the 55m Dash (2nd) and 200m Dash (3rd), senior Gabrielle Stravach in the Mile (2nd), junior Ariana Newhouse in the 400m Dash (2nd), junior Jordan Small in the high jump (2nd), sophomore Gabrielle Davis in the long jump (2nd) and sophomore Gracie Potokar in the shot put (3rd).

Heading into the meet, senior Erica Goldman possesses the fastest time in the 400m Dash at 58.77 (converted from 57.99) with Bland ranking second in the both the 60m (7.88 from 55m) and 200m (26.19, converted from 25.79). Stravach has turned in the second fastest time in the Mile (5:04.11, converted from 5:01.12) and sixth in the 800m Run (2:17.24, converted from 2:15.68) while junior Dilys Osei is third in the 60m Hurdles (9.24 from 55m) and fourth in the 200m Dash (26.26 converted from 25.86). The Eagles also own the quickest time in the 4x400m Relay as Osei, Bland, Goldman and sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard clocked a time of 3:53.62 at the Samford Open earlier this month.

In the jumps, Small ranks fourth among UAA leaders in the high jump (1.60m), freshman Rebekah Bondi is sixth in the long jump (5.16m) as is sophomore Nyla Lindo in the triple jump (10.93m). In the throwing events, sophomore Greta Wilker paces the Eagles with an 11.74m mark in the shot put, placing her third on the UAA leaderboard with senior Kora Dreffs fourth at 11.72m. Junior Paris Wagner also checks in fourth in the weight throw, with a team-best mark of 14.88m.

Competition begins at 11:00 AM on Saturday with the women’s long jump and continues until the women’s and men’s 4x400m Relay Sunday afternoon at 2:05 PM. Fans can follow the action from Cleveland with the links provided above.
