Eagles Garner Three UAA Athlete of the Week Awards

For the fourth consecutive week, the Emory Eagles collected at least three University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week awards with three student-athletes earning the weekly honor on Monday, November 1st. Junior golfer Jackson Klutznick won his second straight award while senior Nate Sampson and freshman Mina Toglukdemir each garnered their first for men's soccer and women's tennis, respectively, this season.

After setting the program record for low round at the Golfweek Invitational, Klutznick turned right around and won his first-ever tournament carding a 135 (65-70) at the Chick-fil-A Invitational in Rome, GA, leading the field with 12 birdies. His performance helped lead the Eagles to a first place finish at the Invitational, marking the team's third consecutive tournament victory. Thanks in large part to Klutznick's play, the Eagles have moved to No. 1 in the latest GCAA Coaches poll for the first time this season.

Toglukdemir highlighted the Emory women's tennis team at the Wofford Invitational as the Eagles wrapped up their fall schedule this past weekend. Toglukdemir was one of two Eagles to win a singles draw at the three-day tournament as she won the White draw with wins over players from Presbyterian (6-3, 6-3), Wofford (3-6, 6-2, 10-8) and Arkansas State (2-6, 6-3, 10-8). In doubles, Toglukdemir teamed with senior Emma Cartledge to win the Black draw, one of two Emory doubles teams to win draws over the weekend. Toglukdemir/Cartledge knocked off teams from Wofford (6-4) and Kennesaw State (7-6 (5)) before defeating teammates Christina Watson/Eliza McPherron in the finals, 6-2.

Sampson recorded three of the four Eagle goals over the weekend, helping Emory go 1-1 on the road against Brandeis and #15 NYU. The Milwaukee, WI native registered his first brace of the year Sunday afternoon which included the game-winner in overtime that knocked off the first-place Violets. Sampson, for the season, now leads the Eagles in goals (5), points (11) and GWG (3).

The Athlete of the Week award is the second of Klutznick's career and the first-ever career honor for both Sampson and Toglukdemir.
