Emory Athletics Weekly Preview: April 4th - 10th

The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for April 4th – April 10th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Men's Golf:

Most recently coming off of a third place finish at the Jekyll Island Collegiate, The Emory University men's golf team is back in action this week as they compete at the Shorter Hawk Invitational in Rome, GA. The event, hosted by Shorter University, is being played at the Stonebridge Golf Course on Monday, April 4th through Tuesday, April 5th.

The Eagles will travel eight golfers for the competition including freshman Josh Qian, freshman Michael Burry, freshman Nic Nautiyal, senior Nick Paschetto, sophomore Logan Lowery, junior Grant Drogosch, sophomore Tarun Hoskere and freshman Prayaag Oruganti.

Softball:

After splitting their series with Brandeis this past weekend, the Emory University softball team is back on the road this weekend for its four game series against the Case Western Reserve Spartans. The Eagles (15-11, 4-4 UAA) travel to Cleveland, OH for their series against the Spartans (13-8, 5-2 UAA) with the first game scheduled to start at 3:00 PM on Friday.

The Eagles hold a 41-10 all-time series record advantage over the Spartans with the most recent game in 2019 being a 3-2 nail biter in Case Western Reserve's favor. Graduate student Allie Moberg had one of her most successful weekends as an Eagle this season, contributing a team-high six runs and eight hits to go along with two home runs.

Baseball:

After a 3-1 weekend against NYU, including a 24-8 demolition of the Violets in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, the Emory University baseball team is back on the road this weekend for their conference series against the WashU Bears. The Eagles (17-12, 4-4 UAA) look to add some tallies to the win column as they take on the Bears (9-10, 1-3 UAA) with the first game set to kick off at 4:00 PM on Friday in St. Louis, MO.

The Eagles hold a 29-20 all-time series advantage over the Bears, however, WashU currently is on a four-game win streak over Emory with the Eagles most recent win coming from a 4-0 decision in April of 2018. The Eagles combined for six home runs over the weekend against NYU including three by sophomore Tyler McLoughlin all of which came in the two games on Saturday. McLoughlin added six shutout innings on the mound in the series finale on Sunday, striking out seven to earn the win.

Track & Field:

The Emory University track & field teams are set to compete at the Lee Flames Invitational in Cleveland, TN this weekend. The Eagles competed at the UAB Spring Invite last weekend where the men finished in second place with 120 points and the women finished in third accumulating 80.5 points. The meet is set to get underway at 1:45 PM on Friday with the men's hammer throw event and will resume on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM with the women's javelin throw.

At the UAB Spring Invitational the men's 4x100 relay team consisting of freshman Sam Ryba, senior Jacob Solomon, graduate student Liam Fost and freshman Jackson Price had a strong showing finishing in second place with a time of 42.57 seconds which sees them sit with the 36th best time in the nation. For the women, senior Alex Devaux set a new personal best distance in the hammer throw at 49.87m which is the tenth farthest distance in program history and the 13th best performance by an individual this season according to TFRRS.

Men's Tennis:

The Emory University men's tennis team rides a three-match winning streak into their contest on Saturday against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs. The Eagles (7-6) travel to Athens, TN for their matchup with the Bulldogs (11-2) at 2:00 PM on Saturday as they approach postseason play. The two teams met earlier this season with TWU narrowly pulling out the 5-4 victory in a match that came down to the finale point. Sophomore Nolan Shah has won his last four singles matches, all at the No. 3 singles position, and his last three doubles matches alongside senior Andrew Esses at No. 1 doubles.
