The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for April 11th – April 17th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Men's Golf:

The Emory University men's golf team travels to French Lick, IN to compete in the DIII Showcase to begin the week before closing the week by hosting their home tournament, the Emory Invitational. The 54-hole DIII Showcase is being played on the par-70, 6,612-yard Donald Ross Golf Course at the French Lick Resort on Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole Emory Invitational will be played at the Cherokee Run golf course in Conyers, GA on Saturday and Sunday. The No. 2 ranked Eagles will travel senior Max Schwarz, senior Logan Ryan, junior Jackson Klutznick, freshman Tony Li and senior Davis Hingtgen to compete at the DIII Showcase. Of the 20 teams competing at the DIII Showcase, ten of them are ranked including top-ten programs: No. 3 Huntingdon, No. 5 Wittenberg, No. 6 Carnegie Mellon, No. 7 Illinois Wesleyan and No. 10 Sewanee.

Women's Golf:

On a two-tournament winning streak, the Emory University women's golf team will make the trek down to Bessemer, AL for the Microjuvenate Panthers Classic early this week. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 5,603-yard Bent Brook Golf Course on Monday, April 11th and Tuesday, April 12th. The No. 1 ranked Eagles will send freshman Sharon Mun, freshman Ellen Dong, freshman Heejo Hyun, sophomore Irene Wang and sophomore Mariana Chong to compete at the tournament. There are 12 teams total competing at the tournament, five of whom are ranked including No. 2 Carnegie Mellon, No. 4 Methodist and No. 15 Berry College.

Softball:

Coming off a tough series on the road against Case Western Reserve this past weekend, the Emory University softball team looks to bounce back as it returns home for a four-game series against NYU this weekend. The Eagles (15-15, 4-8 UAA) will play their final home series of the regular season when they take on the Violets (9-16, 3-7 UAA) with the first game set to start at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 15th at Cooper Field. The team will recognize several notable alumni including the 2002 College World Series team on Saturday prior to honoring its senior class with a post-game ceremony on Sunday.

The Eagles hold a 12-2 all-time series advantage over the Violets with their most recent matchup in 2019 ending 4-3 in the Eagles favor. Junior Tyler Miller had an offensive explosion in the final game of the Eagles series against the Spartans going for two home runs to keep Emory tight in the contest.

Women's Tennis:

The Emory University women's tennis team will travel to the northeast for three matches against top-10 ranked opponents from the NESCAC. The No. 4 ranked Eagles (6-5) will take on No. 9 Amherst (6-5) Friday afternoon in Amherst, MA before traveling to Middletown, CT to take on No. 5 Wesleyan (Conn.) (12-0) in an NCAA Championship rematch on Saturday before finally facing off against No. 10 Tufts (8-2) on Sunday in Medford, MA.

The Eagles hold a 16-4 all-time series advantage over Amherst and currently are on a five-match winning streak over the Mammoths. Emory is 3-2 against Wesleyan (Conn.) all-time with their most recent match being the 2021 DIII NCAA Championship match that the Eagles won in decisive fashion, 5-0. The Eagles are 8-1 all-time against Tufts with their most recent meeting occurring in the 2021 DIII NCAA Championship semifinals where Emory advanced with the 5-2 triumph. This weekend represents the Eagles' last matches of the regular season before starting postseason play with the UAA Championships on April 22-24.

Track & Field:

After a solid weekend at the Lee Flames Invitational in Cleveland, TN, the Emory University track & field returns to action this weekend at the Berry College Field Day in Rome, GA. The meet is set to get underway at 2:00 PM on Friday with women's javelin before resuming on Saturday at 9:00 AM with the men's hammer throw. At the Lee Flames Invitational, junior Annika Urban broke the program record, which she had set a year prior, in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:00.46. Senior Spencer Moore finished with the eighth best time in program history in the 3,000m steeplechase when he crossed the finish line in 9:18.67 this past weekend.

Men's Tennis:

The Emory University men's tennis team will travel to Maryland this weekend for a match against the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays. The No. 11 ranked Eagles (7-7) will face off against the No. 20 Blue Jays (8-1) in Baltimore, MD on Sunday at 12:00 PM. The Eagles hold a 7-1 all-time series advantage over the Blue Jays with their most recent match a 6-3 victory in 2017 for Emory.
