Jason Hamilton & Clio Hancock Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America First Teams

Emory University senior swimmers Jason Hamilton and Clio Hancock were both named to the Academic All-America First Teams as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America this week.

Hamilton and Hancock become the latest members of the swimming & diving program to garner Academic All-America acclaim and are the fourth and fifth Eagles to be named Academic All-Americans this academic calendar, joining volleyball's Tara Martin, men's basketball's Matthew Schner and women's basketball's Claire Brock. With the latest honors, the Emory Athletics department has now seen 197 Academic All-America honors bestowed upon its student-athletes.

Hamilton led the Eagles men's program to its second-ever national championship this past spring. At the national championships, Hamilton earned four All-America honors and was the individual national champion in the 200 Breaststroke, winning his second consecutive title in the event with the second-fastest time in NCAA history. In addition, he was part of Emory's national championship-winning 800 Freestyle Relay which turned in a Division III record in the process. An Emory 100 Senior Honorary selection in the fall, Hamilton has collected nine All-America honors in his career.

Like Hamilton, Hancock secures her first-ever Academic All-America honor after helping the Emory women to a national runner-up finish this March. She was an All-American in all three individual events she competed in, placing second in the 200 Butterfly, fourth in the 400 IM and sixth in the 200 IM and added an All-America finish as part of the Eagles 800 Freestyle Relay. Furthermore, Hancock was named the NCAA Elite 90 award winner at the championships, becoming the second-ever recipient of the award in Emory Athletics history. For her career, she was a nine-time All-American and two-time All-America Honorable Mention as well as an Emory 100 Senior Honorary.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a key starter or reserve, maintain a 3.30 grade point average, be of sophomore standing or higher, and have attended their current institutions for at least one year.
