Five More Eagles Named UAA Athletes of the Week

For the second straight week, five Emory University student-athletes were tabbed as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Both indoor track & field and swimming & diving nabbed two athlete of the week selections while senior Claire Brock of women's basketball rounded out the selections. For indoor track & field, senior Spencer Moore and freshman Henry Brandstadter swept the men's selections, as Moore earned his third-ever selection while this marks Brandstadter's fourth selection of his stellar young career. The Eagles swept the swimming athlete of the week awards with sophomores Anderson Holcomb and Rosalie Gaudiani earning their first-ever selections. For Brock, this marks her sixth ever selection and her third of the 2022-23 season.

Moore was a part of two program record-setting events over the weekend at the South Carolina Invitational. On Friday, Moore broke his own program record in the one mile run as he crossed the finish line in a time of 4:09.07. Moore's time is good for ninth best in the nation and first in the conference this season according to TFRRS. On Saturday, Moore ran the closing leg of the Eagles' DMR team as they recorded a time of 9:57.31 to place second at the meet. This marks the first time an Eagles team has broken the 10-minute threshold in program history and stands as the third-fastest time in Division III this season.

Brandstadter continued his dominant first collegiate season with a win in the long jump at the South Carolina Invitational. Brandstadter's distance of 7.40m is the best in program history, marking the third time this season he has established the new program record in the event, breaking the previous best mark by 0.19m. Brandstadter's mark is the farthest distance recorded in Division III this season according to TFRRS. Brandstadter also competed in the 200m dash where he registered a time of 27.53 seconds.

Gaudiani paced the Emory women this past weekend at Auburn. While competing against Power-5 athletes, Gaudiani turned in a pair of NCAA B Cuts as she moved to 18th nationally in the 100 Fly (55.71) and 19th in the country in the 200 Fly (2:04.96). She also had a season-best time in the 200 IM, moving to 35th nationally at 2:06.52.

Holcomb highlighted the Emory men's team at Auburn, registering four different NCAA B Cuts across the two days. Among his fast times were three season-best marks that moved him to 8th nationally in the 400 IM (3:56.80), 21st in the 200 IM (1:50.51) and 28th in the 100 Breast (55.59). He also posted a time of 2:00.43 in the 200 Breast, which would rank 10th nationally (where he currently stands at 2:00.30).

Brock averaged 21 PPG as the Eagles went 1-1 this past weekend, including a win at #10 Chicago on Friday. Brock shot 9-for-13 to finish with 24 points in Emory's upset win over the Maroons before posting 18 points as the Eagles fell to UAA-leader WashU on Sunday. Brock ended the weekend 15-for-24 from the floor and 6-for-11 from three, to go along with five assists, five rebounds and a steal.
