The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for November 6th - November 12th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Men's Soccer:

After claiming the UAA title with a 5-2 conference record, the No. 9 Emory men's soccer team (11-3-3) was selected as a regional host for the NCAA tournament this upcoming weekend. The Eagles have enjoyed playing at home in 2023, boasting a 6-0-2 record at the WoodPEC this season. Making the trip to Atlanta for the opening rounds will be Brevard, Colorado College, and Oglethorpe. Emory will take on Brevard in the first round, while Colorado College and Oglethorpe will play one another. The Eagles and Brevard played once this year already, with the Eagles coming out on top 2-1, with Josh Grand netting the winner in the 67th minute.

Graduate transfer Colton Myers has served as the catalyst for the Emory offense, netting eight goals and an assist in just 14 matches played. Paired with senior goalkeeper Peter Wagner, who has notched seven shutouts while surrendering just 0.65 goals per game, the Eagles are poised to make their mark in the NCAA tournament. This marks the 18th appearance in the NCAA tournament in program history and the third appearance in the NCAA tournament under Head Coach Cory Greiner who is in his sixth season at the helm.

Volleyball:

The No. 5 Emory women's volleyball team (22-1) wrapped up their regular season this past weekend, winning all four of its matches, including a win over in-state rival No. 11 Berry. After posting a near perfect regular season record, the Eagles will shift their attention to the UAA Championships this weekend. Emory's undefeated 7-0 record in conference play secured the tournament's No. 1 seed in the tournament, pitting them against the No. 8 seed Rochester in the first round.

The Eagles are riding hot, boasting an eight-match winning streak heading into the conference tournament. Emory received impressive performances all around this past weekend, with junior Lily Martin leading the way. Her powerful swing at the net left opponents looking for answers, as she racked up 37 kills on the weekend, including 15 against No. 11 Berry. Junior Sarah Luong picked up her fair share of assists as well, picking up 79 over the course of the weekend, with 27 of which coming against Berry.

Emory University will host the tournament, with matches beginning at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 10th.

Women's Soccer:

For the fifth consecutive season, the Emory University women's soccer team will be playing in the NCAA tournament after receiving an at-large bid to the 64-team field as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles (8-5-4) draw Mary Hardin-Baylor, who is serving as the regional host, in the opening round. The Crusaders boast a near perfect 16-1-1 record, with their sole loss coming in the Championship match of the American Southwest Conference. The Crusaders boast a talented offense paired with a stout defense that allows just 0.33 goals per game. This will be the first time in both programs' history that the two will meet on the pitch.

Should the Eagles win, they will play the winner of the match between Hardin-Simmons and Trinity (TX) on Sunday.

The Eagles have received a boost offensively this season from freshman Kaitlyn Nimmer, who has a team-leading nine goals. The backline has performed well this year as well, allowing just 1.06 goals per game. The Eagles will look to knock off the Crusaders this weekend as they travel to Belton, Texas.

Cross Country:

The Emory men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Rome, Georgia for the NCAA South Region Championships this weekend. Both the men's and women's teams finished fourth out of eight teams at the UAA Championships two weeks back and will look to rebound in Rome. The Eagles have received a series of dazzling performances from graduate student Brigid Hanley this season. Hanley has been the first Eagle to cross the finish line in each race she has run in this season, including a first-place finish at the Rowan Border Battle in October. Freshman Kirin Karver has had a series of impressive performances as well. Karver turned in his best time of the season at the Upstate Invitational, clocking in at 25:01.0 to finish 19th overall in a deep field.

The Eagles will get started with the men's race at 11:00 AM and the women's race at 12:00 PM in Rome.

Women's Basketball:

The Emory women's basketball team will tip-off their regular season this weekend, with two games on deck. They'll take on No. 3 Christopher Newport on Saturday and N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday as part of the Jean Edge Classic in Rocky Mount. The Eagles are coming off a season in which they went 17-8 and secured a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Heading into her fifth year as head coach, Misha Jackson will look to bring the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in her tenure. Jackson is returning graduate student guard Claire Brock, who received WBCA All-America Honorable Mention acclaim. Brock started all 25 games for Emory in 2022-23 and led the team with 16.3 points per game. Brock and the Eagles will look to start their season off on the right foot, with games on back-to-back days this weekend.

Men's Basketball:

The No. 19 Emory men's basketball game concluded their exhibition slate with two wins over Division II opponents. The Eagles trounced Augusta 96-86 and Georgia Southwestern 76-63, with junior forward Cale Martens leading the way with 50 points combined in two games. Martens also racked up 14 rebounds in those games as well. The Eagles boast a Division III best 10-straight years of reaching the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles' quest to extend this streak to 11 starts this weekend as they take on Piedmont on the road.
