The Eagles will head to Florida facing off against 15 NCAA Division-I programs. Of the Eagles' opponents, four hail from the Ivy League with host Columbia, Princeton, Yale, and Dartmouth all making the trip south. Additional teams in the field include Albany, Cal State Fullerton, Eastern Kentucky, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Richmond, Seton Hall, St. John's and Youngstown State.

The Eagles concluded their first fall under head coach Liz Fernandes with a second-place finish in the UAA as well as one tournament win. Fernandes kicked off her tenure with the Eagles in style, winning the Eagles' first event of the year by 26 strokes at the Denison Lynn Schweizer Invitational. Junior Sharon Mun won the individual title, with a two-round score of 142. Freshman Esther Jung, senior Irene Wang, and freshman Derica Chiu also finished in the top-seven of all golfers.

The Eagles also strung together a solid showing at the Golfweek October Classic in October, finishing 3rd out of 24 teams in a highly competitive field. The Eagles shot a 908 over three rounds with junior Heejo Hyun and Chiu leading the way, tying for 21st overall on the individual leaderboard.

The Eagles have a chance to turn heads this weekend when they take on a field comprised of all Division-I opponents. The Eagles will play a practice round on Friday before commencing their Spring slate on Saturday morning.

Baseball:

The Emory baseball team will kick off its season this weekend with a three-game set against a regional rival Berry College. The first two games will be played in Rome, Georgia with a double header on Friday at William R. Bowdoin Field before the two teams return to Atlanta to finish the series at Chappell Park. The double header will start at 2:00 PM with a nine-inning game and the second game will start shortly after, the second game being just seven innings. The game in Atlanta is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.

The Emory Eagles are coming off a 2023 season in which they won the UAA in dominant fashion. The Eagles went 13-2 in conference play, the most wins in a single season for the conference. The UAA championship was the program's 15th title, also the most in the league's history. The Eagles saw a good portion of their runs scored via the long ball, slugging 48 home runs and averaging 1.23 per game, the 21st best mark in the nation last year. Emory's .530 slugging percentage was the 10th best in the nation as well. The Eagles finished their season red-hot, winning 12 of their final 13 games, outscoring opponents 165-60 over that stretch.

The Eagles are returning several key players from their UAA title team as the squad looks for a return to the NCAA postseason. A pair of infielders, junior Jack Halloran and senior Jacob Grossman, will return in 2023. Halloran, hailing from Westhampton Beach, New York, served as a steady member of the lineup, slashing .361/.430/.704 while manning the hot corner. Grossman, a middle infielder from California will look to follow up his strong season, where he hit .357 and contributed 4 long balls in 126 at-bats. Meanwhile, junior Ryan Reynolds will likely serve as the ace for the Eagles' pitching staff as he returns coming off the heels of a 6-2 season where he pitched 49.2 innings with a WHIP just over 1.50.

The Vikings are under the leadership of David Beasley, who is in his 27th season as head coach at Berry. Berry will return Nick Brunswick, an outfielder who hit .418 while also driving in 26 runs. The senior broke the Berry single-season hits record last year when he recorded 69 hits.

The Eagles and Vikings have met 29 times before, with Berry having the slight edge, 15-14. The first game of the doubleheader on Friday will start at 2:00 PM. For the game in Atlanta, the first 50 students in attendance on Saturday will receive free t-shirts and Chick-Fil-A.

Women's Basketball:

The No. 19 ranked Emory women's basketball team (16-4, 6-3 UAA) will finish the second half of their four-game homestand this weekend. The Eagles kicked off the stretch in Atlanta this past weekend, going 1-1 against UAA opponents. Emory has another pair of conference foes set to visit the WoodPEC, with WashU and UChicago up next.

The Eagles kicked off their second-ever Friday Night Basketball event with a convincing 76-50 victory over the Brandeis Judges. Graduate student Claire Brock paced all scorers, shooting 7-13 from the field and scoring 17 points. Senior Izzy Munson found success against the Judges as well, knocking down two three-pointers on her way to scoring 10 points. Sophomore Lily Kennedy tied her career-best in rebounds, grabbing six boards against the Judges.

Just a week after falling on the road to No. 1 ranked NYU, the Eagles looked to get redemption this past Sunday. However, the Violets outscored Emory 21-2 in the first quarter and the early deficit proved to be too much for the Eagles. Emory pushed back, outscoring the Violets 17-13 in the second quarter, but the Violets never yielded the lead they built early in the first frame. NYU's Natalie Bruns was all over the court, picking up 23 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and three blocks.

With the loss to the Violets, the Eagles slipped to 6-3 but still find themselves tied for third in the conference with WashU. Emory boasts one of the conference's top defenses this season, allowing just 60.3 points per game. To go along with the stout defense, Brock leads all UAA players this season with 17.6 points per game as well as three-pointers per game with 2.6. Sophomore Katherine Martini also finds herself near the top of the UAA stat leaders, ranking third in blocks per game with 1.4.

As a team, the Eagles rank seventh in the nation in three-point percentage, knocking down 35.6% of their attempts from beyond the arc. To go along with their high percentage shooting from deep, the Eagles prevent their opponents from getting back into games via the three-ball, holding opponents to just 22.3% from deep. This mark also ranks seventh in the nation.

WashU comes into their matchup with Emory red-hot, having won five straight UAA matchups. The Bears have scored more than 80 points in all but one of those games as well. The Bears average 72.8 points per game and knock down shots at an incredibly high clip, shooting 45.4% from the field which is the ninth-best mark in the nation. WashU is led by Lexy Harris who is averaging 16.3 points per game, ranking second among all UAA players. The 6-3 freshman is putting up big numbers at the center position, averaging 18.8 over the Bears' five-game winning streak.

The Eagles have a chance to claim sole possession of third in the conference with a win on Friday, as both teams sit at 6-3 in their UAA slate this year. The Eagles have had some success against WashU in the past couple of seasons, winning three of the last five matchups. The two met earlier this year, with the Eagles pulling out a narrow win on the road, 76-73.

The game against WashU will feature Emory's third Friday Night Basketball Tailgate. The event will feature the Parlay Savory Saloon Food Truck, a live DJ, a beer garden (21+), halftime performances and more! Friday's game against WashU will also be a celebration of Black History Month and will be blackout themed. The first 200 students in attendance will receive black Swoop T-Shirts. The game against the Bears will tip off at 5:30 PM on Friday.

The Eagles will then gear up to take on the UChicago Maroons, who are also on a winning streak of their own, having won four straight and seven of their last eight. The Maroons have won with strong offensive performances, averaging 72.6 points per game, the third best in the UAA. The Maroons are led by a pair of senior guards in Ellie Gross and Sophia North. Gross is averaging 12.9 points per game while North is averaging 12.6.

The Eagles and Maroons have been split as of late, with both going 3-3 in the last six matchups. The two met earlier this season with UChicago winning, 72-58. The Eagles will look to avenge this season's earlier loss, tipping off with the Maroons at 2:00 PM on Sunday.

Men's Basketball:

The Emory men's basketball team (12-8, 3-6 UAA) will conclude their homestand this weekend with two more UAA matchups on the schedule. The Eagles are set to welcome No. 17 ranked WashU and UChicago this upcoming weekend.

The Eagles started their four-game stretch of home games this past weekend against Brandeis and No. 10 ranked NYU. Emory fell in heartbreaking fashion in both contests, losing both games by just a combined five points. The Eagles fell behind early to the Judges and could not dig themselves out of an early hole, falling 71-69 after a last-second three-pointer from the Eagles wouldn't fall. Meanwhile, the Violets capped off a 15-3 run over the final four minutes with a last-second three-pointer to take down the Eagles, 81-78.

The Eagles are looking to get back on track this weekend with a chance and make a late season push up the UAA standings.

Emory is led by sophomore guard Jair Knight, who is averaging 17.0 points per game. Knight was red-hot before fouling out against the Violets this past weekend, scoring 19 points on 7-11 shooting. His classmate, Ben Pearce, is second among all UAA players in assists per game with 5.7.

As a team, the Eagles rank second in the conference with 84.6 points per game, behind just Case Western Reserve's 85.9. The Eagles take more three-pointers than most teams, attempting 30.3 per game, which ranks 16th in the nation. Emory also ranks 14th in the nation in rebounds per game, averaging 43.7.

The WashU Bears enter the game against Emory on a two-game skid, having lost to Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon this past weekend. Their conference record now sits at 4-5. The Bears are one of the nation's most disciplined teams, committing just 12.4 fouls per game, the fourth best mark in the nation. Hayden Doyle is leading the Bears, averaging 14.7 points per game. WashU has won three of the past four matchups including earlier this season when they won at home against Emory, 85-81.

The game against WashU will feature Emory's Friday Night Basketball Tailgate. The game will tip off 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's basketball game.

UChicago enters the weekend having won three of their last four, including putting up 99 points in their win over Carnegie Mellon. Like the Eagles, the Maroons like to shoot the three-ball, attempting 27.2 shots from deep per game. The Maroons take care of the basketball as well, having an assist/turnover ratio of 1.40, the third-best in the conference. Junior Thomas Kurowski leads UChicago, averaging 14.2 points per game this season. The junior guard has been unstoppable as of late, averaging 24 points per game over his last three games, including shooting 63.6% from beyond the arc over that stretch.

The Eagles and Maroons met earlier this year, with Emory pulling away with an 84-72 win on the road. The all-time series now sits at 40-31 in Chicago's favor, but Emory has dominated the series in recent memory, with the Eagles winning 16 of the last 20 matchups dating back to February 2015.
