Six Eagles Named UAA Athletes of the Week

Six Emory University student-athletes were selected as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of February 5th-11th.

The six weekly honors were spread out across three different sports with graduate student Nikki Boon and senior Kenya Sei sweeping the indoor field awards, senior Chris Dieffenthaller and Katherine Swan taking both swimming honors and juniors Jack Halloran and Ryan Reynolds winning the first baseball honors of the season.

Boon was the lone competitor for the Eagles at the Ohio Wesleyan Open in Delaware, Ohio on Friday afternoon competing in the Pentathlon. Boon broke the program record with a 3697-point finish in the event ranking her first in the UAA and second in Division III this season. She placed first in each event and finished in a tie in the high jump with a height of 1.50m.

Sei continues to be a record breaker this season breaking the weight throw record at the Samford Bulldog Open on Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama. He took eighth place in the event with a distance of 17.43m to break his own record. His distance ranks second in the UAA this season and 33rd in Division III.

Dieffenthaller recorded three personal-best times, including two NCAA B Cuts, as he led the Eagles at the Auburn Invitational this weekend. Dieffenthaller posted times of 54.66 in the 100 Breast and 2:00.71 in the 200 Breast, moving himself to 10th nationally in the 100 Breast and 15th in the 200.

Swan turned in three season-best times with all three marking NCAA B Cuts as she led Emory at Auburn. Swan now ranks 7th in DIII in the 200 Freestyle at 1:50.38, 23rd in DIII in the 500 Freestyle with her time of 5:00.25 and 22nd in the 1650 Freestyle at 17.19.01.

Halloran picked up where his torrid end of 2023 left off this past weekend as the Eagles opened the 2024 season with a 1-2 record against Berry College. Halloran went 3-for-9 during the series, hitting his first two home runs of the year, and drove in a team-leading seven runs.

Reynolds earned the Eagles' first win on the mound this past Friday with his decision in the second game of the doubleheader at Berry College. Reynolds carried a shutout into the sixth inning before finishing with a line of one run on seven hits and one walk in 5.1 IP, striking out six.

This week marked the first career honors for Boon, Dieffenthaller, Swan and Reynolds while this was the second career milestone for Halloran and the third for Sei, although his first during this record breaking indoor season.
