Zach Wasserlauf & Christian Liew Claim UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

Two Emory University student-athletes collected their first-ever University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors this past week as the conference announced weekly award winners on Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Zach Wasserlauf from baseball went 7-for-18 and drove in a team-high six runs as the Eagles went 2-2 against four different opponents. Three of his seven hits went for extra bases as he collected two doubles and one home run to give him a .667 slugging percentage for the week. He drew three walks and was hit by a pitch twice to raise his on-base percentage to .522 as well.

Freshman Christian Liew from men's tennis started his spring season in dominant fashion this past weekend, helping lift the Eagles to two home wins. The rookie started Friday against SCAD Atlanta with doubles play in the No. 3 slot alongside Brandon Cohen and pulled out a narrow 8-6 victory. Liew proceeded to win his singles match in the No. 4 spot against the Bees convincingly, sweeping the sets 6-1 and 6-0. His victories helped boost the Eagles to an 8-1 victory over the Bees. Paired with Samuel Dean on Saturday against Tennessee Wesleyan, the No. 2 ranked NAIA in the country, the two easily won their No. 3 doubles match by a score of 8-2. He once again swept his singles match at the No. 4 position, winning 6-2 and 6-0. His two wins against Tennessee Wesleyan were critical, as the Eagles pulled away with a 6-3 win. Liew finished the weekend unblemished with a 4-0 in his matches while dropping just three games over the course of his two singles matches.
