Three Eagles Chosen as UAA Athletes of the Week

Three Emory University student-athletes were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of February 19-25.

Freshman Christian Liew earned his second straight honor after leading the men's tennis team to its 10th ITA National Team Indoors championship in program history. Sophomore Meredith Liu impressed with improved times at the Emory February Invitational to collect her first career weekly honor and junior Jack Halloran led the baseball program to a series win over Rose-Hulman as he earned his second UAA AOW of the season and third of his career.

Liew's dominant rookie season continued this past weekend, playing a key role in Emory winning the indoor national title. Liew won two of his three doubles matches and swept all three of his singles matches in straight set decisions. Liew dropped just 11 games in singles play, going 36-11 while playing at both the No. 4 and No. 5 singles position over the weekend.

Liu recorded a pair of NCAA B Cuts this weekend at home to move her up the DIII ranks. On Friday, Liu earned a first place finish in the 500 Freestyle as she shaved over three seconds off her season-best time. Her time of 4:57.52 moved her into a tie for 20th in Division III. On Saturday, Liu returned to the pool for the mile and secured another first place finish, this time with a time of 17:12.82 and now ranks 19th in the nation.

Halloran's strong start to the season continued this past weekend at Chappell Park in Emory's 2-1 series win over Rose-Hulman. Halloran went 8-for-10 at the dish while driving in nine runs over the three games. The junior designated hitter went yard twice, hit two doubles, and reached base via the walk four times as well over the course of the weekend.
