Four Eagles Selected as UAA Athletes of the Week

Four Emory University student-athletes were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of February 25 through March 3.

Sophomore Ren Watt from women's swimming & diving earned her third weekly honor after sweeping the NCAA Regionals while junior Audrey Johnson picked up her second for representing the track & field program at the South Final Qualifier. Rounding out this week's honorees were sophomore Izzy Antanavicius from women's tennis and freshman Jake Lawson from baseball who collected their first career honors.

Watt impressed at the NCAA Regionals in San Antonio, sweeping both events in the women's competition. On Friday, she topped a field of 28 divers in the 1-meter event with a winning score of 441.70. A day later, Watt was the winning athlete in the 22-diver field in the 3-meter event, recording a competition-best score of 468.40.

The lone track and field athlete competing this past weekend, Johnson took part in the South Region Final Qualifier looking to make her qualifying time in the 60m and 200m. During the 60m dash prelims, she ran a 7.71 for a first place finish before running a 7.73 in the finals for a second place finish. Her prelim time ranks 27th in the Division and fifth in the UAA this season. She finished in a tie for first in the 200m running a 25.57, good for sixth in the UAA, and qualified for a spot at the NCAA Championships.

Antanavicius had an strong weekend at the 2024 ITA Indoor National Championships going 3-0 in her singles matches to help the Eagles finish fifth in the team competition. On Friday against No. 5 seeded Johns Hopkins, Antanavicius defeated Sophia Kim with a 6-2, 6-2 straight set decision. The Eagles then faced No. 10 ranked Carnegie Mellon where she and doubles partner Yanire Marte downed their opponent 6-2 in doubles before Antanavicius won her singles match with another straight set 6-2, 6-2 victory. In the fifth place match on Sunday, Antanavicius secured the clinching point for the Eagles with a 6-2, 6-4 decision on court four.

Lawson went 7-for-12 as the Eagles went 2-1 against LaGrange and Covenant. He had multi-hit games in all three contests, including a season-best 3-for-4 effort in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Covenant. Lawson topped the team in hits for the week as well as on-base percentage, and collected one walk, one HBP and one steal.
