Four Eagles Named UAA Athletes of the Week for April 8-14

Four Emory University student-athletes were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon for their performances during the period of April 8-14.

Graduate student Nikki Boon continued to excel as she earned her fourth weekly honor in Blue & Gold. In addition to Boon, three Eagles garnered their first-ever weekly honor with sophomore Josh Zuckerman for baseball, sophomore Katie Park for women's golf and senior Dawit Dean for men's track & field.

Zuckerman turned in one of the best pitching performances in Emory history on Saturday in the Eagles' 12-3 extra-inning win at WashU. Zuckerman faced 27 batters and struck out 14 of them in 7.2 innings. He allowed one unearned run on just one hit and two walks as he earned the no decision. The 14 strikeouts are a career-high and are the sixth-most in a single-game in program history.

Boon continued her record-breaking ways adding another program record at the Berry Field Day Invitational. She took first in the heptathlon with a score of 5,107 points while finishing inside the top-four in each of the seven events while taking first in the long jump (5.60m) and javelin (37.51m). Her mark is the second best time in Division III this season and ranks first in the UAA.

Dean put his name in the Emory record books this weekend at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic hosted by Lynchburg University. Dean broke the program record in the 800m with a time of 1:49.25 good for a second place finish, breaking the previous record held by teammate Spencer Watry who had just set the mark a week ago. Dean's time ranks third in the Division and first in the UAA this season. On Friday, Dean also competed in the 4x400m helping the group win the event with a mark of 3:15.61 which ranks 15th in the nation and first in the UAA.

Park was the individual medalist at the Max & Susan Stith Invitational, helping the Eagles to a second place team finish. Park tied a program record with her two-round score of 140 and finished six shots better than the next closest golfer. After shooting a 71 in the first round, Park carded a personal-best 69 on Tuesday to become the third Eagle this season to shoot under 70 in a single round.
