Emory

April Flint was appointed Assistant Athletic Director For Recreation and Play Emory in November 2012. 

Flint has an extensive background at the higher-education level in directing both recreation and intramural departments as well as serving as an instructor.  She served as the Director of Intramural Sports and Fike Day Camp at Clemson University from 2007 through 2012 with some of her responsibilities including the coordination, development and maintenance of all daily operations, marketing, facilities and programming that served approximately 5,000 individual participants and 80-90 summer-day campers.  She oversaw the training and development of graduate and undergraduate staff members, and also aided the development of the campus recreation budget while managing the intramural sports budget.

In the Fall of 2013, Emory launched a new and innovative recreation program to be located within the Department Athletics and Recreation.  The implementation of this program follows a year-long external review and recommendations from consultant, Brailsford & Dunlavey, on how to deliver health and wellness through physical activity across the University in a more consistent, efficient and financially sustainable manner.  Play Emory seeks to carry an individual from an existing state to a transformed state by deploying a three-phased approach to health and wellness through physical activity – Teach, Translate and Transform.

The Play Emory program will ultimately replace the current Department of Health and Physical Education program within Emory College and the Fitness Emory program within Athletics & Recreation. The Play Emory program is being piloted this fall with expectations for full implementation for undergraduates in the Fall of 2013.  Access to Play Emory for graduate students and faculty and staff will follow at a later date.

Prior to her tenure at Clemson, Flint worked at Georgia Tech in various capacities from 2001 through 2007.  While on the Flats, Flint served as the Sport Club, Summer Camp & Special Events Coordinator where she oversaw and advised 33 sport clubs, teCh wReCk Day Camp, and special events. In addition, she was GTU’s initial Intramural Coordinator with that position involving nearly 4,500 participants.

Flint earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management from Georgia Southern and later obtained her master’s degree in sport administration from Georgia State University in 2003.  In September of this year, she earned her doctoral degree in educational leadership from Clemson.  She is a member of the Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional Registry and a member of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.
