Athletes of the Week

(April 24) Senior Justin Gordon helped the ninth-ranked Emory baseball team to a 2-1 record this past weekend in North Carolina. In three games Gordon finished 9-14, scoring four runs and recording six RBI. Against Greensboro College he was 3-4 with two RBI. In a double-header sweep of Methodist College he was 3-4 in game one with three runs and two RBI. In the second contest he finished 3-6 with one run and two RBI. For the season Gordon is batting .352 is third on the team in hits with 45.


(April 17) Senior second basemen Justin Gordon turned in a solid weekend for the top-ranked Eagles.  On Friday against Millsaps College (Miss.), Gordon went 3-5, while recording two RBI and scoring one run.  On Saturday he added another hit to his statistics, going 4-9 for the weekend.


(April 10) Senior outfielder Bryan Langbord set a new Emory record this past weekend against Piedmont College with his 60th career double.  He breaks the record of 59, held by Kyle Foster ('03) and Ted Karniewicz ('00).  For the season he is hitting .318, while recording 35 hits and scoring 29 runs.  He also has 12 doubles on the season that leads the team.  In the game with Piedmont, Langbord finished the day 1-3, scoring two runs and recording an RBI.


(April 3) Junior pitcher Jason Glushon pitched seven innings, while striking out four and allowing only one run in the third-ranked Eagles' 3-2 victory over No. 19 LaGrange on Saturday.  Glushon improved to 8-0 on the season and has a 1.25 ERA, third on the team among pitchers who have earned wins this season.  Glushon's eight victories also leads the team.


(March 27) Sophomore infielder Frank Pfister helped guide the Eagles to three wins in four games this past week.  In the four contests he finished with six RBI, while scoring one run and collecting five hits.  Highlighting the week's games was his performance against Division II North Georgia College & State where he was 3-4 with 2 RBI.  Pfister leads the team in RBI with 28, while he is second on the team in hits with 32.


(March 20) Senior Bryan Langbord helped lead the Emory Eagles to the 2006 UAA Championship.  This marks the first conference title for the Eagles since 2004.  During the tournament he finished at .571 with seven runs and 12 hits.  He also accounted for 1 home run and six RBI.  Langbord also finished with an .857 slugging percentage and .625 on base percentage.


(March 13) Senior pitcher Mike Kerfeld picked up his second win of the season Saturday over Heidelberg College by a score of 6-1.  Kerfeld went 6.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out six.  For the season Kerfeld has a 0.92 ERA, allowing just two runs on nine hits.  He leads the team in strikeouts with 28.


(March 6) Emory catcher Griffin Baum turned in a solid effort this past week as the Eagles now stand 11-1 on the season, winners of 11 straight.  Against Oglethorpe University (Ga.), Baum collected two hits and two RBI in Emory's 10-0 victory.  Sunday versus Maryville College (Tenn.), Baum recorded his first home run of the season with a two-run home run in a 10-5 win.


(Feb. 27) Bryan Langbord helped lead Emory to the Rawlings Classic championship with a 3-0 record.  For the tournament he finished with four hits, including a home run in a 7-5 win over Lynchburg College (Va.).  For the season he leads the team in total bases with 17.  He also has 11 hits end scored eight runs.


(Feb. 20) Senior Justin Gordon turned in a solid effort this past week in helping lead the Emory baseball team to three consecutive wins. Against Washington & Lee University (Va.) he was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored in a 15-6 Emory win. On Sunday against Lewis and Clark College (Ore.) he finished the day 3-for-4, scoring three runs in a 9-1 victory. For the season, Gordon leads the team in hits with nine and total bases with 11.
