Emory University’s Andrew Cohn,
Kevin O’Connor and Gabe
Shivers were named to the 2010 All-University Athletic
Association (UAA) Baseball First Team, while Brian
Cournoyer, Ryan Jones and
Jonathan Reilly earned spots on the second
team.
Cohn finished the 2010 season with a .392 batting average, the
second-highest mark on the team, in addition to three home runs and
32 runs batted in. The third baseman’s .494 on base
percentage led all Eagles, and he was second on the squad with a
.592 slugging percentage. In addition, he finished the season
with 17 doubles, the third-most in the conference. This is
the first all-UAA first team honor for the junior, who had
previously been named to the all-UAA second team twice and the
all-UAA Tournament team earlier this season.
O’Connor, a sophomore second baseman, hit .375 with three
home runs and a team-best 37 runs batted in during the year.
His .594 slugging percentage and three triples led all Emory
players in 2010, and his 13 doubles were the fifth-most among UAA
players. This is the first all-UAA honor of
O’Connor’s career.
In his first season on the team, Shivers batted a team-best .421,
the fifth-highest mark by all conference competitors. The
junior also led all Emory players with 10 stolen bases and 34 runs
scored, while driving in 20 runs, and recording an on base
percentage of .493. Shivers was perfect in the field as well,
not making an error on 75 attempts in centerfield, while
accumulating four outfield assists.
Cournoyer earned the first all-UAA honor of his career, after
leading all conference pitchers with at least 20 innings pitched
with a 2.17 earned run average. The senior appeared in 18
games for Emory, all out of the bullpen, striking out 30 batters
over 45.2 innings pitched. He finished the campaign with a
3-2 record.
Jones, who spent time at first, second and third base during his
first season as an Eagle, hit .372 with 12 RBI and 26 runs scored,
while stealing seven bases. The junior’s .971 fielding
percentage was tops among all of the Eagles’ infielders to
appear in at least 30 games during the season.
Reilly, a sophomore transfer to Emory, accumulated 55 hits during
the season to lead all Eagles, and finished fourth among all
conference players in the category. The shortstop and second
baseman finished the year tied for the team lead with 37 runs
batted in, in addition to a .355 batting average, two home runs, 12
doubles and 25 runs scored.
This marked the second season that the UAA has named an
all-conference team based on the entire season on play, in addition
to an all-UAA Tournament team. In seasons prior to 2009, the
all-UAA selections were based on individual performances during the
conference tournament.
The Eagles finished the season with a record of 19-20, including a
3-2 mark in UAA games.
