The Emory University baseball team will conclude its 2010 season
this weekend, playing at sixth-ranked Birmingham Southern College
at 8:00 PM EST on Friday, and against the Panthers at Chappell Park
on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
Sunday’s contest will also be ‘Senior Day’ for
the Emory baseball team, as the squad will honor its graduating
seniors who will be playing in the final game of their
careers. Emory’s senior class of 2010 includes pitchers
Brian Cournoyer, Adam Genn,
Will Gumm, Zeb Heidt,
Matthew Katten and Marc
Terranova, and outfielder Dan
Molnar.
Emory will need to win both contests to avoid finishing the season
below .500 for the first time since the team’s inaugural
campaign in 1991. The Eagles currently stand at 18-19 on the
year, following their 5-0 win over Atlanta Christian College on
Wednesday, Emory’s second shutout of the season. The
Eagles are 8-9 at home this season, and 6-8 in road games.
Birmingham Southern will enter the contest as the sixth-ranked team
in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, in which they received three
first-place votes. The Panthers are 33-4 this season,
including marks of 19-2 at home, and 14-1 in road games.
Birmingham Southern has not lost a game since March
24th, a streak consisting of 17-consecutive games.
This weekend’s games will be the 10th and
11th meetings all time between the two teams, but just
the third and fourth games since 1996. Emory is 3-6 all time
against Birmingham Southern, including a season-opening split of
two games last season at Chappell Park.
