Eagles Fall to Piedmont 15-6 at Chappell Park on Friday

The Emory University baseball team suffered its second loss in as many days to Piedmont University, as the Eagles fell to the Lions 15-6 at Chappell Park on Friday.

Emory was in an immediate hole in the game, as Piedmont scored four runs in both the first and second inning.  After Emory got a run back on an Andrew Cohn RBI in the bottom of the second, Piedmont scored four more runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 12-1 lead.

Emory sophomore Jay Page would drive in a run with a base hit in the fifth, while freshman Mark Lindemann, and juniors Evan Plys and Matt Fennell each drove in runs in the seventh inning, but it was too little too late for the Eagles.

Emory hitters amassed 15 hits in the losing effort.  Page, Andrew DeYoung and Jeremy Bolian each had two-hit games coming off the bench for the Eagles.

Freshman starter Caleb Long took the loss for Emory dropping to 0-1 on the season.  Junior Chris Monaco pitched well in a relief effort in the loss, allowing just one run on three hits in four innings, striking out two batters.

Emory and Piedmont will wrap up their three-game series on Saturday in Demorest, GA with a 1:00 PM start.
