Baseball Falls 6-3 to Berry College

Baseball Falls 6-3 to Berry College

The Emory University baseball team saw its four-game winning streak come to a close on Saturday, falling 6-3 at Berry College.

Eagles starting pitcher Caleb Long took the loss, his first in seven starts this season, falling to 6-1 on the year.  Emory picked up eight hits in the game, while the Vikings had nine hits, and were helped out by a pair of errors committed by the Eagles.

Emory got off to a quick start, scoring a run on Jonathan Reilly's RBI double.  However, Berry responded with two runs in the bottom of the first off Long, keying off a streak of six unanswered runs off Eagles pitching over the next five innings.

The Eagles would threaten in the ninth inning, loading the bases with nobody out on back-to-back singles from Patrick Riebsame and Ryan Jones, and a walk to Andrew Cohn.  Vikings' pitcher Cameron Rich retired the next two batter, but Andrew DeYoung singled in a pair of runs to pull the Eagles within three.  However, Rich got a strikeout to end the game, earning the complete game victory for Berry.

Riebsame and Brandon Hannon each had two hits in the game for Emory.  Pitcher Keith Gordon pitched two perfect innings in relief, striking out a pair of batters.

Emory dropped to 25-13 with the loss, while Berry improved to 19-12.  The two teams will be back in action tomorrow, as the Eagles will host Berry College at Chappell Park at 12:00 PM.
