The Emory University baseball team will look to put a quick end
to a two-game losing streak this weekend, as the Eagles will play a
home-and-home series against Covenant College on Friday and
Saturday.
The Eagles will host Covenant at Chappell Park on Friday 3:00
PM. On Saturday, the Emory will travel to Covenant College in
Lookout Mountain, GA for a 2:00 PM at Highland Park.

Emory Eagles
Emory will begin play this weekend with a record of
21-12, after dropping games earlier in the week to Maryville
College and Atlanta Christian College. The Eagles have a
record of 13-5 at home and 8-7 away from Chappell Park this
season. Emory is batting .310 as a team with 7.7 runs scored
per game, while the pitching staff has an ERA of 4.41 with a .283
opponent’s batting average. Emory is led by head coach
Mike Twardoski, whose 358-160-1 career record is
good for a .692 winning percentage, the highest mark among active
UAA coaches, 15th-highest among all active NCAA Division
III coaches, and 21st-best mark among Division III
coaches all time to start the season. Assistant Coaches
Bobby Perez, Brian Clark, and
Greg McMichael will complete Coach
Twardoski’s staff for the 2011 season.
Covenant Scots
Covenant will enter play on Friday with a 17-9
record, following its 11-6 loss to Oglethorpe University on
Wednesday. The Scots are 3-5 on the road this season, but
14-4 at their home park. The Scots are batting .287 as a team
with 7.0 runs scored per game, while their pitchers have a 3.27 ERA
with a .265 batting average against. Covenant is led by head
coach Doug Simons, who is 65-136 during his five years with the
time. He is assisted by Tony Stevens, William Russell, Ben
Wharton and Craig Kleinmann.

This weekend’s games will be the first ever
between the two programs.

Emory University senior Andrew Cohn
has 191 career hits, the 12th-most in the
program’s history, and is nine hits away from becoming the
10th player in the program’s history with 200
career hits… Freshman Brandon Hannon is on
pace to set a school record with a .609 on base percentage, which
would best the previous mark of .557 set by Jason Zaremski in
1997… His batting average of .471 currently ranks as the
third-best mark in Emory history… Junior Kevin
O’Connor’s 33 walks this season are the
sixth-most in the program’s history, and 16 shy of Dan
Molnar’s record, set in 2009… Emory is batting .346 as
a team with a 3.61 ERA in wins, but hitting just .245 with a 5.83
ERA in losses… The Eagles are also scoring 9.7 runs per game
in wins this season, compared to 4.3 runs in losses, while allowing
just 4.8 runs per game in wins and 8.1 in losses.
