Emory University senior Jay Page drove in the game-winning run in the 10^th inning of Friday's game against Denison University with a walk off single, giving the Eagles a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Big Red at Chappell Park.

With rain beginning to fall on the field, senior Daniel Iturrey led the 10^th inning off with a walk on a 3-2 pitch off Denison freshman Kyle Colgain.  Pinch running for Iturrey, freshman Jordan Selbach advanced to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Ryan Toscano.  With one out in the inning, Page drove in the game-winning run on a 0-1 pitch, singling into left field and scoring Selbach.

The victory raised Emory's mark to 6-5 on the season, including a 2-1 record in extra inning affairs.  Denison, opening its campaign on Friday, fell to 0-1.

Emory fell into an early hole in the game, as Denison scored all four of its runs in the first inning off Eagles' sophomore starter Ben Hinojosa, including three unearned runs during the frame.

The score remained 4-0 until the bottom of the third, when Emory took advantage of a delayed steal with runners on the corners, scoring freshman Brett Lake from third base, and pulling the Eagles to within three runs.

Meanwhile, Hinojosa would settle in on the mound for the Eagles, holding the Big Red without a run for the remainder of his time in the game, striking out three and walking four.  He lowered his season ERA to 2.77 during his six and a third innings on the mound.

Emory's offense would get back on the board in the bottom of the sixth, with Denison starter Tyler Vaske removed from the game after 111 pitchers over five innings.  The Eagles evened the game during the frame, as Toscano scored on a wild pitch, Lake drove in freshman Wes Peacock with a single, and freshman Ben Hambleton crossed the plate from third, when Lake was caught stealing at second.

A key moment in the game came during the top of the seventh, when Denison loaded the bases with one out in the seventh and the game tied at four.  Reliver Mike Bitanga got Evan Nicholson to fly to shallow left field, and Emory left fielder Wes Peacock threw a strike to home plate to get Tyler Nicholson out when he tried to score.

Bitanga would keep Denison out of the run column for the rest of the game, finishing the game with just two hits allowed over the final three and two thirds innings.  He improved to 2-0 on the year with a 2.08 ERA, while Colgain fell to 0-1 with the loss.

Lake finished the game four-for-five with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base, raising his batting average from .216 to start the game to .286 by the end. 

The Eagles and the Big Red will meet again at Chappell Park on Sunday, as the two teams will face off at 11:00 AM.
