Eagles Lose Second-Straight to Huntingdon

Eagles Lose Second-Straight to Huntingdon

The Emory University baseball team dropped its second-straight game on Saturday afternoon, losing to Huntingdon College 14-7 at Chappell Park.

With the loss, Emory dropped to 5-4 on the season.  Huntingdon improved to 8-4 with the win.

The Eagles fell behind early in the game, when the Hawks scored three in the first inning, including two unearned runs.  Huntingdon added another run in the third, extending their lead to 4-0, but Emory would cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning on RBIs from Brandon Hannon and Jared Welch.

However, Huntingdon scored six runs, including three on bases-loaded walks and three more on a bases-clearing double from Caleb Astin, to blow the game open.

Emory's top-two hitters, Hannon and Wes Peacock, each picked up three hits in the game, while Welch drove in a pair of runs.

Freshman starter Paul Merolla took the loss for the Eagles, falling to 1-1 on the season.  Emory finished the game with a season-high five errors.

Huntingdon starter Cory Belyeu earned the win, raising his record to 2-0.

Emory will look to salvage the final game of the three-game series on Sunday, when the Eagles host Huntingdon at 1:00 PM at Chappell Park.
