Emory University sophomore Kyle Monk had a pair of scoreless relief outings for the second-ranked Eagles last week. Monk allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out three batters in three and a third innings of work. In a 7-6 loss to Oglethorpe University on Tuesday, the right-handed pitcher entered the game with two men on in the eighth, and proceeded to get the final out of the inning and pitch a scoreless ninth. He also closed out Emory’s 10-2 win over Methodist University on Saturday with a pair of shutout innings, striking out a pair while giving up a walk and a hit. Through four appearances this season, Monk has a 1.08 ERA with seven strikeouts in 8.1 innings pitched, and has held opponents to a .212 batting average. The Eagles have opened the campaign with a 6-3 record.
