The second-ranked Eagles suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-0 to Rhodes College in the finale of the Rhodes College Classic in Jackson, Mississippi.

Emory, now 5-1 on the year, struggled to get its offense going against Rhodes starter Blake Glauben, who surrendered just three hits over six shutout innings to improve to 2-0 on the year.  Daniel Morris pitched the final three innings of the game to earn his first save of the year, holding the Eagles to just one hit.

Sophomore Hans Hansen started for Emory, giving up four runs on five hits over four innings of work.  Rhodes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout, and added three more in the fourth on RBIs from Will Gietema, Nathan Foshee and Marcus Moreland.

Sophomore Luke Emmett came out of the bullpen to pitch three strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on a pair of hits, while freshman Danny Kerning added a scoreless frame of work in the eighth.

At the plate, sophomore Philip Maldari collected a pair of hits, while sophomores Jeff Ronpirin and Wilson Morgan picked up hits as well on the day.

Rhodes improved to 7-2 on the year with the win.  The loss was Emory's first regular-season setback to an NCAA Division III opponent since March 30th, 2014, a 15-game span.

The Eagles will look to bounce back on Tuesday, when they play host to crosstown opponent Oglethorpe University at 2:00 pm at Chappell Park.
