Emory Drops Game to Berry, 9-2

Emory Drops Game to Berry, 9-2

Playing at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, Georgia, home of the Single-A Rome Braves, the Emory University Eagles fell 9-2 to Berry College on Wednesday night.

The loss dropped Emory's record to 13-9 on the season, while the Vikings improved to 14-10-1 with the win.

The Eagles jumped out in front in the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when centerfielder Wes Peacock doubled to start the frame, and later scored on a double play.  Berry would answer back in the bottom of the second, scoring a pair of runs off Emory's freshman starter Matt Randolph, taking a 2-1 lead.

Emory pulled even in the game in the top of the fourth inning, as Peacock again got the Eagles started, singling to right field with one out, moving to third on a wild pitch and a throwing error by the Berry catcher, and scoring on an RBI double from third baseman Philip Maldari.  However, the Vikings once again regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning and three more in the next, going on top 6-2 after five innings.  Berry added another run in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the bottom of the eighth to cap off its scoring for the day.

Randolph, making his first career start, took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year.  Berry threw nine different pitchers in the game, each for one inning, with Austin Loper earning the win.

Emory will return to Chappell Park for three games this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader against the University of Chicago on Saturday, March 28th, starting at 12:00 pm.
