Emory Baseball Takes Rubber Match from Covenant, 8-3

The Emory University baseball team won the rubber match against Covenant College Monday afternoon, defeating the Scots 8-3 in front of the Chappell Park faithful in Atlanta.

Freshman Josh Zuckerman and senior Mike Golob combined to limit Covenant to three runs over the nine frames with Golob spinning 4.1 scoreless out of the pen to earn his first win of the season.

Offensively, junior Jacob Grossman went 2-for-5 with two RBI with sophomore Jack Halloran chipping in with a 1-for-4 day and had his third home run of the campaign, hitting the left field foul pole in the sixth. Sophomore Blake Dincman added a 2-for-3 effort with a RBI and a walk, as did senior Henry Pelinski who finished 2-for-4 and drove in one of the team's eight runs.

The Eagles struck for four runs in the home half of the first to set the tone early. Senior Ellis Schwartz brought home the game's first tally and was one of four different RBI singles in the inning. Emory went on to add a run in the fourth before Covenant countered with a three spot in the fifth.  However, Grossman and Halloran accounted for three in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Emory will back at Chappell Park on Tuesday and Wednesday as they take on NCAC foe Wittenberg College in a pair of 1:00 pm starts.
