Emory Baseball Falls in Series Finale to CWRU on Sunday

The Emory University baseball team fell in the series finale to Case Western Reserve University Sunday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

The Spartans scored 18 runs on 16 hits and drew 13 walks to down the Eagles by an 18-6 decision. With the win, CWRU improved to 17-6 on the season and dropped the Eagles to 14-11.

The first five innings of the game mirrored the first three games of the series, with both teams trading barbs with one another. However, an 11-run sixth inning from the Spartans pushed the game into mercy rule territory as they closed out the game in seven innings.

Senior Jacob Grossman went 2-for-4 with two RBI as he paced the Emory offense while juniors Jack Halloran, Blake Dincman, sophomore Cam Newell and freshman Zach Hanson each had one RBI.

Five Emory hurlers saw time on the mound in the loss with sophomore Adam Geller slipping to 0-2 as he got the start and worked four innings. Freshman Mihir Patel impressed in his collegiate debut as he spun 1.1 scoreless innings, working around two walks and a hit as he struck out one.

The Eagles look to shake off a 1-3 weekend as Emory travels to Conley Island for a four-game series next weekend against New York University. First pitch at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park is set for 3:00 PM on Friday afternoon.
