Connor McGuiness
Title: Pitching Coach

Connor McGuiness rejoined the Emory University baseball team as a pitching coach in August of 2013.

McGuiness produced immediate results during his first year on the coaching staff, helping lead the Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships and to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.  Emory's pitching staff recorded a 3.31 ERA during the year, its lowest mark since the 2007 campaign and the seventh-best single-season mark in the program's history.  McGuiness helped starter Hans Hansen win both D3Baseball.com South Region and UAA Rookie of the Year awards, while Connor Dillman was named to the All-South Region Second Team.

McGuiness returned to Emory after a four-year career with the Eagles, during which he appeared in 41 games.  The lefty served as a team captain during his senior year, during which he was 1-1 with an 0.87 ERA and a .036 opponents batting average in eight relief appearances.  Known for his ability to hold runners on base, McGuiness’ 10 career pickoffs were the fourth-most in the program’s history at the time of his graduation.

While at Emory, McGuiness started his own company, Slidestep Consulting, which specializes in research and data analysis, moving the business to Arlington, Virginia after graduation.  Connor also serves as a statistical analyst for McNamara Baseball Group, helping develop data necessary for contract negotiations.

“We are extremely pleased to bring Connor back to Emory as a part of our coaching staff,” said Emory Head Coach Mike Twardoski.  “As a player, we always considered him a coach on the field due to his tremendous leadership ability.  Now, as our pitching coach, I am confident he will continue to raise the level of our entire pitching staff.”

McGuiness graduated from Emory in May of 2012 with a major in Economics and a concentration in Finance.
