1st Round Results
The No. 18-ranked Emory University golf team holds down first place after the opening round of the University Athletic Association Championships. The 36-hole event is being played at the 6,768, par-72 RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.
The Eagles concluded the opening day of action with a team score of 289, eight shots ahead of the University of Rochester. Carnegie Mellon stands third with a 308 while New York University rounds out the field at 316.
Seniors Ryan Dagerman and Nick Szem, along with sophomore Jonathan Chen, led a strong Emory with each player shooting even-par 72, good for a second-place tie in the 28-player field. Freshman Alex Wunderlich rounded out the squad's scorers with a one-over par 73, good for a tie for fifth place on the leader board with Terrence Einhorn of CMU, while junior David Collura also competed and carded a respectable 74, placing him seventh in the field.
Nicholas Palladino of Rochester, the 2011 conference medalist, put himself in prime position to repeat after shooting a four-under par 68.
The final round of the UAA Golf Championships will be held on Wednesday.
Note: Emory's score of 289 on Tuesday represented the program's third-best mark at the UAA Championships behind only a 284 (2011) and 286 (2008).
