The No. 18-ranked Emory University golf team stands tied for fifth place out of 30 teams after the first round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,700 yard Pine Lakes Course.
The Eagles shot an opening-day score of 292 and are deadlocked withTexas-Tyler. No. 3-ranked Methodist holds down the top spot with a 279 while No. 7 Oglethorpe is second at 281. LaVerne (288) and No. 2-ranked Illinois Wesleyan (290) round out the top four squads.
Senior Ryan Dagerman, fresh off a strong performance at the University Athletic Association Championships, led the Emory effort was a career-best round of four-under 68, good for a third-place tie place in the 150-player field. Junior David Collura tied his low round of the year with his even-par 72 tying for 18th. Senior Nick Szem carded a 75 while sophomore Johnathan Chen and freshman Alex Wunderlich each posted a 77.
Robby Bruns of Methodist leads all individuals after firing a seven-under 65 while Oglethorpe's Eric Quinn is second with a 67.
